Champion Jockey talks us through his Newmarket chances

1.50 Newmarket – Mokaatil

I begin the day on Mokaatil for Sheikh Hamdan.

He ran a good fourth at Royal Ascot behind Sound And Silence, and he then went to Wolverhampton and was beaten by a nice horse of Archie Watson’s [Corinthia Knight].

He then won really well at Ripon last month, and I think he can run a big race here, there are reasons for thinking we can turn the Ascot form around with Sound And Silence as we’re three pounds better off, so we’ve got a good chance.

2.25 Newmarket – One Minute

It’s always nice to ride for William Haggas, and I’m on his One Minute in the Oh So Sharp Stakes.

She was fourth in the Group Three at Salisbury last month, and she stayed on well that day, so this extra furlong should suit and hopefully bring out further improvement.

She is a big price, and Gavota, who I rode last time, looks the one to beat, but mine has an each-way chance I hope, as William does place his horses very well.

3.00 – Newmarket – Massaat

Massaat won really well at Newbury on his reappearance, and followed that up with an excellent third behind Ribchester in the Group One Moulin, and that race was given a boost when the runner-up Taareef won at Chantilly on Arc weekend.

Limato and Dutch Connection provide strong opposition but my fella hasn’t got many miles on the clock and on his best form will be right there.

At this time of the year you wouldn’t expect the ground to be too quick, so good ground will suit us and it wouldn’t be a big shock if he beat Limato.

3.35 Newmarket – Musical Art

In the Fillies’ Mile I ride Musical Art for the first time.

She won well first time up, but things didn’t work out for her in France last time, and she will need to step up considerably on what she’s done so far to figure in what is a really strong race.

4.10 Newmarket – High End

I’ve got a lovely ride in the big handicap, on High End for Saeed Bin Suroor.  He’s been in good form this season, and only just failed to complete the four-timer last time out.

This will be his first try at the trip, but that shouldn’t pose any problems, and he’s top weight for a reason, so in a competitive race he should give me a good spin.

5.20 – Newmarket – High Hopes

My final ride is for David Simcock, on High Hopes in the Listed race.

I’ve finished second on her a couple of times this season, she’s a consistent sort and this is probably her level, so if we can gain some more black type for her then it will be job done.
